The Solar Hot Water Thermal This course is a requirement of the minimum technical competency (MTC) document for solar installers and all bodies offering routes to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) recognise the certificate.

Our training facilities are unique and custom built to include a realistic working environment and simulated the workplace. A 3 day course, it will enable candidates to select the most appropriate solar system for a building based on the client’s needs and to install and maintain any of the common systems in the UK safely and efficiently.
Assessments normally consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations. The certificate meets the requirements for MCS operators.
Certification
Certificates are normally valid for 5 years.

The course includes:
- Introduction to solar heating
- Service and maintenance
- Solar collectors
- Hot water storage and key installation issues
- Preparing to install a solar water heating system
- Fitting solar collectors
- Plumbing layout and design of solar water heating systems
- Control and power requirements
- System commissioning and handover to client

Entry Requirements
To attend the course, candidates must hold and provide evidence of at least one of the required certifications or entry requirements listed below.
- Must hold Water Regulations/Bylaws and Unvented qualifications.
Must hold a minimum of:
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification; or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification; or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification; or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification; or
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification or
- Demonstrable evidence of at least 3 years relevant experience

A valid copy of the certification/documentation must be brought on the first day of the course and presented to the trainer before training can commence.
