CompEx Foundation (ExF) PLUS

CompEx Foundation PLUS is an extension of the CompEx Foundation course, incorporating additional practical training and assessments. As part of the national scheme focusing on training and certifying core competencies for individuals working with equipment in explosive atmospheres, this course sets a target for employees, recognized by the self-regulated sector as vital for Personnel Competency.

Description

Beyond covering core CompEx unit qualifications (including ATEX, DSEAR, and general hazardous locations theory), our course integrates fundamental Ex installation practice, installation training, and a straightforward 'skills' assessment. This involves installing real Ex equipment and glands using portable installation rigs, serving as an ideal introduction for those considering EX01-04 or Ex05-06 practical qualifications.

The course is flexible, offered at our training centres or your location, providing a recognized qualification with a practical skills assessment. A downloadable factsheet in PDF format is available for more details.

Content

Who should attend the Foundation Plus Course? This course, with practical skills training and assessment, is well-suited for those involved in Hazardous Area work with minimal installation experience. Unlike other CompEx units, no prior knowledge of hazardous areas is necessary for full participation. It's particularly suitable for:

  • Manufacturers of equipment involved in gland installation/internal connections in Ex panels or enclosures.
  • Manufacturers of skids and assemblies undertaking gland installation/internal connections.
  • Maintenance Engineers performing limited like-for-like replacements.
  • Small-scale sites with minimal Ex equipment.
  • Additionally, the course serves as an excellent preparation course for the Ex 01-04 qualifications, which include a full day of practical assessments.

CompEx Foundation Plus Course Theoretical Content covers directives, regulations, international schemes, hazardous areas overview, explosion demonstrations, ignition sources, area classification, categories, EPLs, marking, equipment for hazardous areas, types of protection (electrical and non-electrical), and repairs/modifications.
