CompEx Gas & Vapours (Ex01-04)

CompEx 01-04 provides candidates with the relevant training and practical assessments on the installation, maintenance and inspection of electrical and instrumental systems in a flammable gas, vapour or mist environment. Please note we recommend completing the CompEx Foundation 1 Day Course as a prerequisite prior to attending this course.

Description

This qualification is suitable for practicing electrical or instrument technicians who are involved in installing, inspecting and maintaining certified Ex electrical equipment in locations where gases and vapours can potentially create an explosive atmosphere.

Our training facilities are unique and custom built to include a realistic working environment and simulated hazardous area.

The 5 day course includes 3 days of theoretical/practical learning and 2 days of assessment.

All candidates must report to our Falkirk Campus reception at 8.30am on the first day of training.

Prerequisites

Candidates are required to bring the following to the course:
Proof of electrical/instrument qualification which should be original copies of the following:

  • SJIB/JIB Card

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (Electrical) qualifications

  • Recognised Apprenticeship Certificate

  • Completed Company Letter signed by TA

If unable to provide any of the above documents, please complete a company letter before attending.

Photographic ID which should be either of the following:

  • SJIB/JIB Card
  • Passport
  • Driver’s Licence

Assessment

Assessment is undertaken using both practical assessments and an online multiple choice examination that covers the four separate CompEx units.

Practical assessments:

Candidates are required to undertake four practical assessments (one per unit)

  • Ex01 - 3 hours 45 minutes
  • Ex02 - 1 hour 30 minutes
  • EX03 - 3 hours
  • Ex04 - 1 hour 15 minutes

Online exam

Candidates must undertake a multiple-choice online examination that consists of 60 questions answered over 1.5 hours.

Certification

Certificate Issued: Digital CompEx Certificate of Core Competence

Please note no other feedback will be given on request regarding resits, a full breakdown is provided on your diagnostic report issued by CompEx.

ITA

This course may be eligible for ITA funding. You may be eligible if you are:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Not in education or involved in any other SDS funded programme
  • Unemployed and looking to get back into work
  • Employed and earning less than £22,000 per year
  • Resident in Scotland

If you wish to use ITA funding towards the cost of this course, you must first apply for the ITA funding through the My World of Work website. ITA funding will cover up to £200 of course fees. There are various start dates throughout the academic session, please contact training@forthvalley.ac.uk to check available dates prior to applying for ITA funding.

Once you’ve applied for funding, you will receive a confirmation email from SDS and the college with instructions on how to book your course.
